A New Year Gained or a New Year Lost ??

Zoom!
Before we knew it, last year passed by like a flash and the new year is here....
For some people, the beginning of the new year is marked by excited countdowns, popping of firecrackers, partying till the wee hours of the morning and dancing.

And for some, it is a time for somber thoughtfulness and self accountability.
Instead of celebrating, they are worried and scared.
Instead of partying, they think and reflect.
Their hearts tremble and their skins shiver.

Because each year that passes means a year LESS from their lifetime.....

Each year that passes by is bringing them closer to their death....

Because, they know that with each passing year....each passing month....each passing day.....and each passing second...they are that much closer to that inevitable event when they meet their end,
that much closer to their meeting with their Lord, when they will have to stand in front of Him and answer regarding all that they did.

They are aware that whatever time has passed will never come back.
They know that if they did not make the most of their time, and if they did not use their time wisely, in the obedience of Allaah, then surely, they are the losers.

That is because, the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said:
"On the Day of Resurrection the feet of the son of Adam (man) will not move till he is questioned about four things: how he spent his lifetime, how he spent his youth, from where he acquired his wealth and how he spent it, and what he did with his nowledge." (Tirmidhi)

So they take account of themselves and their deeds at the end of a year....and at the end of a month.....and at the end of a day. They are not heedless of the passage of time or day. They are conscious of every second of their lives and how important it is to spend it usefully.

You see, your life is like the pages of a calendar. As the months go by, you flip its pages, never to flip the pages back. Those months that have passed will never come back.

Similarly, as the days and weeks and months of your life go by, they too, will never come back.
What is gone, is gone.

That is why the righteous Salaf were so careful about their time and how they spent it. They made sure that no time, however short it was, passed without doing something useful, like acquiring useful knowledge, doing good deeds, helping others, or advising the Ummah.

Describing the Salafs care for time, Hasan al-Basri said: "I saw those people and how they were more careful about their time than about their Dirhams and Dinars (meaning, their money).

Regarding Imaam Hammad ibn Salamah, someone said: "It is unbelievable! I have never seen Hammad laugh at all. He was always busy explaining hadeeth, praying, reading or praising the Lord. This is how he spent his day." And:" If you were to tell Hammad, You are going to die tomorrow', there would be nothing he could add to what he is already doing."

Subhaan Allaah! What consciousness of the value of time!

Ibn al-Qayyim says: "The year is like a tree, months are its branches, days are the branch sticks, hours are its leaves, and the breaths are its fruits. Therefore, if one's breaths are in obedience [to Allah and His Messenger], the fruits of his tree are good. If they are in disobedience, his fruits are bitter. The harvest is on the Appointed Day, when one's fruits are found out to be either good or bitter."

The Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) said:
Make the most of five things before five others: life before death, health before sickness, free time before becoming busy, youth before old age, and wealth before poverty.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’)

This Hadeeth, like so many other ahaadeeth of the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam), is brief, yet it is so comprehensive and loaded with meaning. Not only does it point out the value of time, but it also points out the importance of its proper utilization during our youth, and health. It urges us to take the initiative, and not to delay good deeds.

The Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) also said:
"Lose no time to do good deeds before you are caught up by one of seven calamities awaiting you: a starvation which may impair your wisdom; a prosperity which may mislead you; an ailment which may damage your health; an old age which may harm your senses; a sudden death; the Dajjal; or Doomsday, which is indeed the hardest and most bitter." [at-Tirmidhi]

In fact, we see that the Sahaabah were not only careful about wasting their time; rather they would compete with one another in good deeds.

The noble and commendable competitions that occurred between Abu Bakr and Umar is well-known to all.
"Umar saw that as an opportunity to outstrip Abu Bakr and he said: Today, I am going to surpass Abu Bakr.
He said: So I came with half of my property.

The Messenger of Allaah asked: What have you left for your family? I answered: As much as this.
Then Abu Bakr came with all that he has and the Messenger of Allaah said: What have you left for your family?
He replied: I left for them Allaah and his Messenger.
It is then that I said: I shall never compete with him on anything again.” (At-Tirmidhee).

And Allaah says: "So race in goodness." (Surah Baqarah: 148)

Some Ulamaa while commenting on the above verse said: “Whoever beats others to the righteous deeds in this world will be the foremost on the Last Day and the foremost people are the highest in position.”

Dear brothers and sisters, mans life is not free from impediments, obstacles and calamities, which can prevent him from accomplishing what could have been done earlier. Wise are those who grab available opportunities before being handicapped by obstacles.

Let us leave those people moving aimlessly in their fake pleasures and ponder over a better and sublime competition....... a competition that is encouraged by the Glorious Quraan.

It is a race towards the Pleasure of Allaah and the Paradise....a competition in the field of righteous deeds.

It is a competition in which the participants are wise people who are aware that this live is short hence they compete with one another in investing their lives in acts of obedience to Allaah.

"Therefore, race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden as wide as heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers. Such is the Favor of Allah; He gives it to whom He will. Allah is the Owner of great favor."
(Surah Hadeed: 21)

Pakistani candidate in IELTS.“ Photo courtesy of British Council of Pakistan.

KARACHI: A Pakistani girl has become the youngest student in the world to have
passed the British Ordinary Level (Level) examination.

Sitara Brooj Akbar, at the age of 11, passed six level subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

In addition to this honour, Sitara also holds the title of being the youngest Pakistani candidate of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and successfully attained seven bands out of nine, scoring 7.5 in the testing system.
The little genius from Chiniot (Punjab) has been making headlines across local media but is yet to receive any recognition from the Government of Pakistan.

We do not need any sort of monetary aid from the government, we just want the government to recognise that Sitara has made a shining example for Pakistan on the international stage and she is the daughter of Pakistan, Sitara's father Ali Akbar told Dawn.com.

Ali Akbar added that the British Council has declared and recognised Sitara's feat as the world's youngest student to have passed [ level exams. However, she has only been declared the youngest IELTS candidate in Pakistan, and not across the world, as the British Council is yet to confirm her feat globally.

Speaking to Dawn.com, Sitara's mother mentioned that her daughter is a great fan of Dr Abdus Salam, Pakistan's sole Nobel laurete and aims to become a top researcher in the field of biochemistry.

All Praises is due to Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, Peace and Blessings be upon the most perfect of creations, His Beloved Habeeb, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam his noble Family and the illustrious Sahaba Ridwanullahi Ta'ala Alaihim Ajma'een and all the pious servants of Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.

The religion of Islam gave women an honorable status and true dignity. Before the advent of Islam, women had no rights of any kind, or an independent identity in any form. The great importance of the Muslim woman’s role – whether as wife, sister, or daughter, and the rights that are due to her and the rights that are due from her – have been explained in the Glorious Qur'an, and further details of this have been explained in the purified Sunnah.

With the advent of Islam came the verse from the Qur'an condemning those who practiced female infanticide:
واذا بشر احدهم بالانثى ظل وجهه مسودا وهو كظيم۔ يتوارى من القوم من سوء ما بشر به ايمسكه على هون ام يدسه في التراب الا ساء ما يحكمون۔
“And when one among of them receives the glad tidings of a daughter, his face turns black for the day, and he remains seething. Hiding from the people because of the evil of the tidings; "Will he keep her with disgrace, or bury her beneath the earth?"; pay heed! Very evil is the judgment they impose!” [Surah an-Nahl : 58/59]

The Holy Qur'an makes no distinction between man and woman as regards to the fundamental human rights. Here we may specifically state that woman, like man, is the possessor of free personality, and enjoys equality with man, in respect of:

Her spiritual and moral status:

The Qur'an says:
للرجال نصيب مما اكتسبوا وللنساء نصيب مما اكتسبن
“…Unto men the benefit of what they earn (of virtue) and unto women the benefit of what they earn (of virtue)” [Surah al-Nisa : 32]

i.e. in matters of spiritual grace both, man and woman, enjoy equal status and are independent of one another. A woman’s responsibility in faith is exactly the same as that of a man. Women are to pray, fast, give charity, perform the pilgrimage and perform other forms of Ibadah. A woman is rewarded for this just like a man. A woman must believe in the Oneness of Almighty Allah, the Books of Almighty Allah , the Angels of Almighty Allah, the Prophets of Almighty, the Day of Resurrection, the Day of Judgment and Heaven and Hell, and Predestination.

Her economic rights:

The Qur'an says:
للرجال نصيب مما ترك الوالدان والاقربون وللنساء نصيب مما ترك الوالدان والاقربون مما قل منه او كثر نصيبا مفروضا
“Unto the men (of a family) belongs a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, and unto the women a share of that which the parents and near kindred leave, whether it be little or much – a legal share.” [Surah al-Nisa : 7]

Her legal rights:

The Qur'an says:
ولهن مثل الذي عليهن بالمعروف
“…And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them, according to what is equitable…” [Surah al-Baqarah : 228]

Islam ensured a dignified life to the fair sex, which was hitherto treated in an unfair manner. Woman became the mistress of the household. Man was not allowed to beat or manhandle them nor deprive them of their share in the property.  The Holy Qur'an declared:
لا تضار والدة بولدها ولا مولود له بولده
“A mother should not be made to suffer because of her child, nor he to whom the child is born (be made to suffer) because of his child (because both are equal before the law)…” [Surah al-Baqarah : 233]

Her right for gaining the Knowledge:

Islam has made it a duty on every Muslim male and female to gain knowledge, which is considered to be a superior act of worship in Islam. In Islam, therefore both men and women are credited with the capacity for learning, understanding and teaching. Knowledge is not only limited to the religious knowledge but includes all forms of knowledge. Acquiring knowledge will enable Muslim women and men to get a better perception and understanding of the world around them and make them more conscious of Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.

Conclusion:

The status of Muslim women as defined in Islam is very important because women make up half of society and they are responsible for nurturing, guidance and reformation of the subsequent generations of men and women. It is the female who imbues principles and faith into the souls of the nation. Indeed, the Muslim woman is the initial teacher in building a righteous society. Islam brought a new lease of life to women. Islam elevated the status of women to great heights so high that she stood shoulder to shoulder with man. In the Islamic family, the role of men and women is complementary rather than competitive. Their duties are described as equal in importance but not identical in substance.

Now, the issue of feminism in Islam is meaningless. The coming of Islam has brightened the life and future of women, in which Islam has lifted up their level. Islam upholds women to the highest and most respected position.

I hope my effort will be appreciated and my sisters in faith will surely remember me in their prayers for peace and prosperity, health and happiness and Allah’s SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala Mercy and Favour. May Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, through the Waseela of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam accept this humble effort; and may He SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala give us the Toufeeq and Hidayah to restore the true rights to our Muslim women as dictated by Islam. Aameen!!

N.B.: I do not intend to restrict the readership of this note to sisters only; brothers also can benefit from this note. May Almighty Allah’s blessings be always with us and our families. Aameen!!

Sayyid al-Mu’azzineen (Leader of the Muazzins), Imam al-Aashiqeen, The great devotee, faithful companion and Mu'azzin of the beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Sayyiduna Bilal al-Habashi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu is a famous and exalted Sahabi who accepted Islam in its early days in Makkah al-Mukarramah. When he accepted Islam, the non-believers placed great difficulties upon him which he bore with great forbearance in his youth. His father's name was Rabah and his mother's name was Hamamah.

His birth place is Abyssinia (Ethiopia) and this is why he is known as Habshi (the old name for Abyssinia is Habsh). Born in the late 6th century, the preferred view is that Bilal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was 43 years old at the time of Hijra but it has been suggested by some that he could have been as old as 53.

He was either a slave of a woman in Makkah who had made Umayyah bin Khalaf her agent in the matters of Hadrat Bilaal or Umayya Ibn Khalaf himself when he accepted Islam. The Kaafirs of Makkah persecuted him severely. When Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu came to know about the pain and anguish which he underwent at the hands of the Kuffaar, he bought him and set him free. One of the many emancipated slaves of Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, Bilal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was known for his beautiful voice and was given the honour by the Holy Prophet Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam of being the first Mu'azzin of Islam. He remained constantly in the company of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. He was at the service of the needs of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. Muhaddith Hakim and Hafidh Abu Nu'aym also regarded him as one of the Ashaab of al-Suffah.

After he had accepted Islam, he participated with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam in the battle of Badr and in all other battles. He called the Adhaan and he was the Mu'azzin of Masjid al-Nabawi as long as he remained with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. His greatness and excellence is mentioned in numerous books of Ahadith.

VIRTUE

One day at the time of Fajr, beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam asked Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, 'O Bilaal, Show me one action that you have done after accepting Islam, whose virtue is above all other actions, because I have heard your footsteps in Jannah'. Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu explains that I have not done any action whose virtue is more than the others. But it is true, that during the day or night, whenever I made Wudhu, I made it my duty to read some Nafl Salaah, and from amongst the Salaah I read, I verily read Tahiyyatul Wudhu (Salaat after Wudhu)" when beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam heard this, he said that it was because of this action that he had attained such status.

Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu used to mention

أبو بكر سيدنا وأعتق سيدنا
Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu is our leader who freed our leader Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala.

In 'Hilyat al-Awliyaa', beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam mentions that he is Sayyid al-Mu’azzineen (leader of the Mu’azzins).

ENDURANCE OF DIFFICULTY ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF ISLAM

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was harassed and beaten the day long and during the night. He was tied in chains and lashed. On the next day, he was again made to lie on the hot desert sands which cause even greater injuries to the body of Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, who was loved by Allah Ta'ala.

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu used to be beaten by many people. When one would get tired, another would take his place. Sometimes it was Abu Jhal's turn and sometimes Umayyah bin Khalaf and others. Each of them would beat him until they got tired but no mercy was spared for the slave whom they so brutally injured and whose status in Jannah was to surpass that of many Arabs.

In the sweltering heat under the Arabian skies, Hadrat Bilal’s love for Allah shone brighter than the sun itself. So strong was it that he could not conceal it despite the punishment and torture afflicted on him by his cruel master.

There were times when a large boulder would be placed upon his chest as he lay on the scorching sand, his ribs being crushed under the weight. Yet the words ‘Ahad! Ahad! (There is only one Allah!)’ were constantly repeated by Hadrat Bilal, so strong was his faith and love.

His Jewish master would insult him and threaten him to denounce Islam, beat him, whip him and humiliate him on the streets of Makkah, but nothing was able to shake Hadrat Bilal’s heart.

FREEDOM

One day, it so happened that Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was passing that way and saw Sayyidina Hadrat Bilal crying out, "Ahad! Ahad!", despite the immense torture he was being subjected to. As he watched, Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique’s heart became agitated upon seeing Hadrat Bilal under such persecution, and tears filled his eyes.

He then called Hadrat Bilal towards himself and advised him to utter Allah's name in solitude and not to utter it in the presence of his persecutor, or he would be subjected to further persecution and torture. Hadrat Bilal replied, "O Honoured One! You are the Siddique of Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, and therefore I accept your advice and will act accordingly."

The following day, Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu happened to pass that way, and again he witnessed the same sight.

Hadrat Bilal was once more uttering the cry of "Ahad! Ahad!" while the Jew was torturing him to such an extent that again his body became soaked in blood. Seeing this, Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique’s heart was filled with pain and he advised Hadrat Bilal, "Brother, why do you utter 'Ahad' in the presence of this persecutor? Utter it silently and secretly within yourself".

Hadrat Mawlana Rumi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu says:

"When Abu Bakr advised him towards silence and secrecy,
Bilal repented again,
But when love overwhelmed, he swallowed the repentance.
It is the message of the troubled heart.
Without You there can be neither peace nor comfort."

Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique, on numerous occasions, gave Hadrat Bilal the same advice but on every occasion when he passed that way, he saw the same scene - the Jew persecuting Bilal who was all the time crying, "Ahad! Ahad!”

Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu finally went to Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam and related the story to him. When Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam heard the story, he was filled with sorrow and tears flowed from his blessed eyes. He asked, "O Siddique! What is the solution to this problem? How can we save Bilal from this calamity?"

Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu replied: "Ya Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, I shall buy Bilal. Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam agreed and said, "Let my share also be therein".

SubhanAllah! How great the fortune of Sayidina Hadrat Bilal, that Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam himself took part in purchasing him.

Hadrat Abu Bakr then approached the Jew while he was again torturing Hadrat Bilal. Hadrat Abu Bakr said to him, "Why are you beating this friend of Allah?" How long will you carry out this practice on this poor person?" Umayyah bin Khalaf retorted that, 'since you have instigated him (by teaching Islam to him) so you free him." Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu answered, "Yes, I will free him. I have a black slave who is even stronger than him and who is in your religion. Will you accept this slave in exchange for him?" Umayyah bin Khalaf accepted the offer. Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu exchanged the slaves and thus bought Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu and freed him before migration. It is also narrated that Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique paid the ransom and freed Hadrat Bilal. Besides Bilal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu he bought other slaves who were being beaten and harassed for accepting Islam and freed them also.

After this, Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, out of love and joy, embraced Hadrat Bilal and held him to his heart.

Hadrat Mawlana Rumi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu says:

"Beloved Mustafa embraced Bilal and held him against his chest. The ecstasy Bilal felt! Who can ever imagine that?"

CONQUEST OF MAKKAH

When the Muslims finally conquered the city of Makkah, its people fled to their houses in fear and bolted the doors and windows. They feared that the Muslims would avenge themselves for the wrong done to them years ago.

The Muslims advanced towards the Holy Kabah and then Hadrat Bilal assured the people that they were safe. He announced out loud, "All those who lay down arms are safe. All those in the house of Abu Sufyan are safe. All those behind closed doors are safe."

BROTHERHOOD

After the migration Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam formed brotherhood between the Sahaaba Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum Ajma’een which meant that two two brothers should be concerned about each other's difficulty and necessity. In this way all of them became Muslim brothers and they shared in the sorrow and grief of each other. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam made Hadrat Bilaal and Hadrat Ubaida bin Haarith (Radi Allahu Anhuma) brothers and a few Historians mention that beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam made Hadrat Abu Rawahah Khashami Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu the brother of Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu.

PARTICIPATION IN THE BATTLE OF BADR AND THE KILLING OF UMAYYA BIN KHALAF

A year after beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam and his beloved Sahaaba Radi Allahu Anhum Ajma’een migrated from Makkah Mukarramah to Madinah Munawwarah, the battle of Badr took place. Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu also participated in this battle with the other Sahaaba Radi Allahu Anhum Ajma’een. The leaders of the Mushrikeen of Makkah (who were the enemies of Islam and the Muslims - who forced the Muslims out of Makkah, who also oppressed Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) were killed in this battle. Specially, Abu Jahl and Umayyah bin Khalaf who severely punished Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu were both killed in this battle.

THE BEGINNING OF ADHAAN AND THE APPOINTMENT OF HADRAT BILAAL RADI ALLAHU TA’ALA ANHU AS MU’AZZIN

In the second year after Hijrah, the announcing of the time of Salaat began and Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was appointed Mu’azzin and always remained the Mu’azzin of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam both in his presence and also during travel.

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu stayed with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam In Madinah Munawwarah, he was the Mu’azzin and even while travelling, he went with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, and at the time of Salaah he used to give Adhaan. Very seldom beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam went somewhere and someone other than Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu called the Adhaan. Whenever beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam went to Masjid al-Qubaa, then Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu would give the Adhaan and when hearing him, the people living around the area knew that beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam was in the area.

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu used to give the Fajr Adhaan from the roof of the house of a lady from the tribe of Banu Najjaar. Her home was joined to the Masjid. From the time of Sehri he used to sit on the roof waiting for the time of Fajr. When it was time to commence the Adhaan then he should stretch his limbs, and make the following Du'a after which he gave the Adhaan.

اللهم إنى أحمدك وأستعينك على قريش أن يقيموا دينك
'Oh Allah I praise you, and I desire that You become aid to the Quraysh to establish Your Deen'

The woman from whose roof he gave the Adhaan said that there was not a day that he did not mention this Du'a. [Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 2, Page 198, Hadith 519]

TREASURER OF BELOVED PROPHET SALLALLAHO ALAIHI WA SALLAM

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was the Muazzin of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam and his treasurer. If anyone came to beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam with any necessity then he used to ask Hadrat Bilaal to carry out this task who would then make sure to get the necessary item and fulfill the need on behalf of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam

Hadrat Bilal mentioned it to Abdullah Al-Hawzaani that if some Muslims came who did not have anything to wear, then Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam should order me to take a loan and purchase a cloth to clothe the needy.

Whilst doing this once Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu accumulated a heap of dates. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam asked Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu what is this? Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu answered I have accumulated this for you and your visitors. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said, 'Oh Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, spend it and do not fear it becoming less'

ENDURANCE OF HUNGER

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was the special companion of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. It is for this reason he also endured difficulties. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said that undoubtedly, the fear he had for Allah was greater than anyone else. On one occasion thirty nights and days passed with him and Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu having had only that amount to eat which could be concealed under the armpits (side) of Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu.

COMPANIONSHIP WITH BELOVED PROPHET SALLALLAHO ALAIHI WA SALLAM

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was always present in the company of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. Hadrat Jaabir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu mentions that at the time of Eid, he was present with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam started the Salaah without the Adhaan and Iqaamat and thereafter gave the Khutbah. Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu stood up and stood side by side with beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam while beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam stood up resting on him and after praising Allah, beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam delivered a lecture and reminded the people about the commands of Allah and encouraged the people to be obedient to Allah Ta'aala. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam told Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu to join him. Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu mentioned to beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam that he was fasting. Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam remarked, 'We are eating our sustenance and the sustenance of Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu is preserved in Jannah." Then he told Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the bones of a fasting person make Tasbeeh and the Angels request his forgiveness when something is eaten near him." [Mishkat al-Masabih]

HEARTBREAK & IMMENSE GRIEF

After the passing away of Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Bilal was overcome with immense grief. This death had completely shattered his heart and in this state, he decided that he could no longer stay in Madinah Sharif. He then gathered his belongings and left for Syria. He had just left the border of Madinah Sharif, when sleep overcame him. He found a tree to sleep under and took some rest there. In his sleep, Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam appeared in his dream and said, “Bilal, why did you leave me?” Hadrat Bilal immediately woke up and, without hesitation, made the journey back to Madinah Sharif.

When the people of Madinah saw Hadrat Bilal returning through the city gates, they were overwhelmed with joy. Word spread through the streets that Bilal, the Holy Prophet’s Muazzin had returned. As Hadrat Bilal made his way to the Holy Prophet’s Masjid, requests for him to do the Azan were ringing in his ears. People followed him through the streets, pleading for him to deliver the call to prayer once more. The blessed city had been deprived of his beautiful Azan for too long, and the people craved to hear it one last time.

However, since the passing away of Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Bilal’s grief had been so immense that he resolved that he would never do the Azan again, and so he refused the pleas of the people. As he advanced towards the blessed Masjid, he saw the two beloved grandsons of Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Hassan and Hussain. They too requested for him to do the Azan, and when he looked upon their blessed young faces, his love for them overwhelmed his heart. He knew he could never refuse them anything, and they were, after all, the grandsons of the one whose love had penetrated his heart through and through.

Hadrat Bilal then stood up on the Mimbar, assumed his position as the Muazzin and started to read the Azan. His voice, beautiful as it was, rang through the streets of Madinah Sharif, his pain and heartbreak evident in the painful tune. He read to his heart’s content, and in such a manner that there was not a person in the blessed city whose eyes were not wet with tears.

When Hadrat Bilal reached “Ash-hadu anna Muhammadur Rasulallah”, he broke down and could not continue. His pain and the pain of Madinah’s people was unbearable. Memories of the beautiful days when Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam sat amongst them penetrated their hearts with hurt and agony. The emptiness of their lives and their souls without Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam had devastated them and left them broken inside. Even the strongest amongst them who were usually able to suppress the pain could not hold back any longer.

STAY IN SYRIA

Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu then came in the presence of Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu and said, 'Oh Khalifah of Rasoolullah, without doubt I have heard from beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam that the best action of a Mu'min is Jihaad in the path of Allah and I have intended now to spend my life in Jihaad till I die." Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said, 'Oh Bilaal! I swear by Allah and my right which is deserving to honored (it is for this reason) that during my lifespan you spend it in Madinah al-Munawwara and give Adhaan. Because I have become old and my time is near (death)." Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu then remained in Madinah Munawwarah. [Asad al-Ghabbah]

After Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu became Khalifah, then Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu came to him and said the same thing again. Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu gave the same answer which Hadrat Abu Bakr Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu had given, but Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu respectfully refused to stay any longer. Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu granted permission to him. Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu became a Mujaahid forever and went to Syria. During the Khilaafat of Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu when he went to Syria, then Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu gave Adhaan in his presence. The narrator says that on this day, Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu thinking of the days of beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam cried to such an extent which we never saw before.

MARRIAGE

While in Syria, Hadrat Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu got married but it is not known whether he had any children or not. The author of Asad al-Ghabbah states that at the time of death, Bilaal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu had no children.

PASSING AWAY OF THE PROPHET’S MU'AZZIN

The great devotee and Muazzin of Rasulallah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, the courageous and beloved Abyssinian by the name of Hadrat Bilal Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu passed away in the 20th year after Hijrah in the middle of reading Adhan in Damascus, Syria between the years 638 and 642 (AD) at the age of 60 or 63 and there he is buried near 'Bab as-Sagheer'. When beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam proclaimed Prophethood, he was 30 years old. He spent the remaining 33 years of his life in the assistance of this Deen, persecuted severely for admitting his Islam and despite this, he continued to announce boldly, 'Ahad, the One Allah!'. He participated in the battles and endured both hunger and pain. He was not only a Mu’azzin, but was granted the status of being the leader of the Mu’azzins.

Sayyaduna Ghawth al-Aa'zam's (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) words concerning Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

Hadrat Maulana Abdul Qayyum Muzaffarpoori narrates that a person by the name of Aashiq Ali wished to become Mureed of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He was informed that Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was to visit Faizabaad, where Aashiq Ali lived.

When Hadrat visited Faizabaad, Maulana Abdul Qayyum took Aashiq Ali with him and requested Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) to make him mureed. Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) thus commanded him to say the words of Bai'at, which he did. Hadrat then asked him to say that he had given his hand in the hand of Hadrat Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). Aashiq Ali said,

'I have given my hand in the hand of Mufti-e-Azam.'

Hadrat then said,

'Say that you have given your hand in the hand of Ghaus-e-Azam'

He again said,

'I have given my hand in the hand of Mufti-e-Azam' You have just asked me repent from lies, and now you tell me to say that I am giving my hand in the hand of Ghaus-e-Azam. You are Mufti-e-Azam.'

Hadrat then explained to him, that this was the method in which a person was entered into the silsila of Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) and this has always been the method of the pious predecessors, and in this way, one is presented to Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). Hadrat then asked him to repeat the words again, but he refused. Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) then removed his Amaama Shareef (Turban) in Jalaal, placed it on the head of Aashiq Ali and said,

'Why are you not saying. Say, I have given my hand in the hand of Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).'

'Aashiq Ali now began to say this, and did so continuously, until he lost consciousness. After regaining his conscious, Maulana Abdul Qayyum took him aside and asked what had happened. Aashiq Ali replied by saying,

'As soon as Hadrat placed his turban on my head, I saw Sarkaar-e-Ghaus-e-Azam Jilani (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) standing in front of me and he said,

'Aashiq Ali! The Hand of Mufti-e-Azam is my hand. He is my representative and my deputy. Say, I have given my hand in the hand of Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)'

Then, I saw that my hand was in the hand of Ghaus-e-Azam. This is why I could not stop saying it and lost consciousness when Ghaus-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) left.'

Sultaan al-Aarifeen Hadrat Sayyidi Abul Husain Ahmad-e-Noori (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

He is the Peer-o-Murshid of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) and one of the Grandmasters of the Barakaatiyah Silsila. He was the personality that informed Aala Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) about the birth of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). Six months after the birth of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), Hadrat Noori Mia (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) went to Bareilly Shareef.

On arrival, he asked to see Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). AlaHadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was carrying Ghausul Waqt in his arms, bringing him to Hadrat Noori Mia (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He did not wait to be offered to hold the young Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He stretched out his blessed hands and took Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) from Aala Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). For quite some time, he kissed the forehead of Ghausul Waqt, and congratulated Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He then said,

'This child is born a Wali. He is very blessed. He will be blessed with long life. This child will do great service to Deen-e-Islam. The servants of Allah, will attain immense benefit through him. This child is the Sheikh-ul-Mashaa'ikh (The Grandmaster of Grandmasters).'

After saying this, he placed his fingers in the young Mufti-e-Azam's mouth and initiated him into the spiritual order. He even blessed Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) with Khilaafat at the tender age of six months.

AlaHadrat Ash Shah Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

The father of Hadrat Mufti'e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) and the Mujaddid of the fourteenth century, knew the excellence and greatness that his blessed son was bestowed with. In the month of Rajab 1339, he announced the following, in a gathering of Ulama,

'On the basis of the authority that I have been given by Allah and His Rasool (Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam), I hereby appoint these two (Sadrush Shariah and Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam), not only as Mufti, but on behalf of the Shariah, I appoint them both as Qaazi (Chief Muslim Justice), and their judgement is the same as that of a Qaazi-e-Islam.'

Ustaaz-ul-Asaatiza Hadrat Allama Mufti Rahm Ilahi (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih)

He was one of the persons blessed with the honour of teaching Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) as a child. The Sainthood and piety of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was apparent from his early childhood. Hadrat Allama Mufti Rahm Ilahi (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih), seeing the foresight and greatness of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) as a child once said the following to Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) :

'I am greatly honoured, that you have appointed me as the teacher of the future Mujaddid (Reviver), but I know that the true teaching will be done by you. I already see the amazing signs of Wilaayat and wisdom in him even now.'

Hadrat Ahsan-ul-Ulama Hadrat Sayyid Shah Mustafa Haidar Hasan Mian (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih)

He is one of the Grand Sheikhs of the Silsila Barakaatiya, and the father of the present Sajaada Nasheen of Marehrah Mutaahira, Hadrat Sayyid Ameen Mian Qibla. He says,

'I saw the spiritual son and sign of my forefather (Noori Mian), Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) in every way possible. I saw him whilst he ate, as he issued decrees, and as a True Successor of his blessed father. I saw him in the eyes of the public and in the privacy of his home. According to me, in every thing he did, there was piety, knowledge, wisdom and strict adherence of the Sunnah. He was a very great Aabid, Zaahid, Leader and a Mujahid in Deen. In the present era, I have never seen any person more pious and with more knowledge of Islam than him. His services to revive Islam is clear and evident. There is no doubt., that he is the Mujaddid of the fifteenth century.'

Qutb-e-Bilgiram, Hadrat Allama Maulana Sayyid Shah Aale Muhammad Suthre Mian (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

He was the successor of Hadrat Meer Sayyid Abdul Waahid Bilgirami (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), who is a mighty Sheikh of the Silsila-e-Barkaatiyah, was a great Wali of his time. He was a direct descendant of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam) and a personality whose wilaayat was apparent to all. He says,

'If one reads the illustrious works of our pious predecessors, then the piety and the explanation of the pious servants of Allah that are found in these works, are seldom seen in the Ulama of today. On numerous occasions, Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind Maulana Shah Mustafa Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) visited Bilgiram Shareef, and I often visited Bareilly Shareef.. Those signs, that were found in our predecessors, can be found in Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He is a exalted Wali Allah, a unique Jurist and an embodiment of knowledge, wisdom and proper practices. I have as yet not seen anyone that shows respect to the Sayyids, like Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).'

Khalifa-e-Aala Hadrat, Burhaan-e-Millat, Hadrat Allama Burhanul Haq Jabalpuri (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

Hadrat Burhaan-e-Millat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), is one of the last Khalifas of Aa'laHadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).' A personality that attained great blessings from Sayyidina Aala Hadrat Azeemul Barkat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He says,

'The Blessed son of Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), is that personality whose every word and every sentence is a law by itself. Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is following in the footsteps of his father, in both his statements, and his actions, and his features and qualities are a replica of Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)'

Hadrat Mufti Shah Hakeem Hasnain' Raza Khan (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih)

Hadrat Hasnain Raza Khan (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih), is the son of Ustaz-e-Zaman Hadrat Hassan Raza Khan (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih), who was the brother of Aala Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He says,

''I was born six months before Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), but He is much more greater than I am. And he has been blessed with a very exalted status. The Truth is, that Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is Qutbul Irshaad. I am his cousin, and one who live with him in the same house. We both spent our childhood together, but I never saw him waste any time playing (like other children). Take note of this statement of mine, 'If you take a bright light and search the entire earth, then By Allah, you will never find a Sheikh like Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).'

Qutb-e-Madinah Hadrat Sheikh Zia-ud-Deen Madani (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

The personality of Qutb-e-Madinah (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is one that needs not real introduction. He was a loyal devotee and Khalifa of Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). A personality who spent his life in the City of Light, Madinatul Munawwara. He says,

'Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was born in 1310 Hijri and this humble servant of Madinah was born in 1294 Hijri. At this time, I was sixteen years old. In 1313 I was a student at Madrasatul Hadith in Pillibit, and every Thursday, I would accompany Hadrat Muhadith-e-Surti (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) when he went to Bareilly Shareef to visit Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). During this time, Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was three years old, and for two years, from 1313 t0 1315, I went toBareilly Shareef every Thursday. None knows Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) like the way I know him. I saw his childhood, his youth and now I am seeing his old age. During their old age, everyone decides to become more pious and everyone does good deeds in their old age. There is nothing splendid about this. The splendour, is in portraying piety in ones youth, and to protect ones self from acting against the Shariah in ones youth, since this is the most testing time.' Ziaaud-Deen Ahmed announces with great pride, in front of the Gumbad-e-Khadrat (Green Dome of the Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam), in Madinah Paak, that I saw with my very own eyes that Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was an embodiment of piety and fear of Allah from childhood. Is there anyone, that can now understand his piety? Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) himself was proud of him. He is from head to toe the splitting image of Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). I may be 16 years older than him, but in status, he is much more elevated than me. At the age of nine, Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) said that Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is a Wali'

Sadr al-Afaadil Allama Naeem al-Din Muradabadi (RaHmatullahi Ta'ala Alaih)

Hadrat Sadrul Afaadil Allama Naeemud'deen Muradabadi (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is the Khalifa of Aala Hadrat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) and a personality with great knowledge. He is the personality that wrote the commentary Khazaa'inul Irfaan on Kanzul Imaan, the Urdu translation of the Holy Quran by Aala Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).

Taajush Shariah Allama Mufti Muhammad Akhtar Raza Khan Qibla states,

'I heard that when anyone asked Sadrul Afaadil concerning his opinion on any religious matter, then he would answer their query, but if they told him that Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) said otherwise, then he would immediately stop and say, 'Whatever Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) said is proper and true.''

Raees-e-Orissa Hadrat Mujaahid-e-Millat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho)

Sultaanul Munazireen, Sheikhul Aarifeen, Hadrat Mujaahid-e-Millat Maulana Shah Habeebur Rahman Abbasi Razvi (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) was a contemporary of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). He says,

'Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is that King of the Auliyah of his era. This faqeer is his humble servant. This is the year 1399 Hijri. All the conditions of a Mujaddid are found in its most high form in Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). Only one condition is left. The fourteenth century is about to come to an end. If he gains some part of the fifteenth century, then there is no doubt, that he is the true Mujaddid of the fifteenth century.'

It must be noted, that as per the statement of Hadrat Mujaahid-e-Millat (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) did attain part of the fifteenth century, as he only passed from this world in 1402 Hijri. According to Hadrat Mujaahid-e-Millat's statement, Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is the Mujaddid of the fifteenth century.

Taajush Shariah Allama Akhtar Raza Khan Qaadri al-Azhari

Taajush Shariah, the successor and grandson of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) says in one of his poetic stanzas in praise of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho),

Mutaqqi Ban Kar Dikhaye Is Zamaane Me Koyi
Ek Mere Mufti-e-Azam Ka Taqwa Chorr Kar

In this stanza, he says, that there are many who claim piety today, but' this claim should be made only after looking at the piety of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). In other words, he is explaining that in this time, there is none more pious and Allah fearing, than Ghausul Waqt Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).

He is a personality that is well loved even today by the family of Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) and his services to the Great Master are fresh in the minds of the people of Bareilly Shareef. He says,

'Whoever had seen Hadrat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) will testify to the fact, that Hadrat was the Wali of his time, and there is none that could doubt the Wilaayat of Sayyiduna Sarkaat Mufti-e-Azam Hind (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho). I lived for many years with Hadrat, and I have learnt of many qualities of a Wali. To my knowledge, Hadrat possessed all the qualities, that are conditions for a Wali. If every one of his qualities have to be described, then volumes will be written. One of his special qualities, was that just by looking at him, one would think of Allah. I had never seen Hadrat act contrary to the Shariat-e-Mustafa (Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam). He was always steadfast on the Shariah, be it fard, Waajib, Sunnah or Mustahab. He never left any shortage in fulfilling these. As Hadrat Junaid-e-Baghdadi (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) said, 'No person is a Wali unless he is steadfast on Shariah', and this was Hadrat's greatest Karaamat.'

It is recorded that when this blessed head arrived before the unclean Yazeed, he began to touch it with his cane. At that moment, a Christian ambassador from Rome was also present. When he saw this, he remarked surprisingly,

“In a church on one of our islands, there a hoof which is said to belong to Nabi Esa’s donkey. Every year, people come from far and wide to see this hoof and also take oaths through it. We also respect it as you people respect the Kaba. However, what have you done with the son of your Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him? I bear witness that you people are indeed misguided.”

Another Jew remarked that,

“There were seventy generations which separated me from Nabi Daud (as family) and yet, the Jews still respected me. And yet, you people have yourselves killed the son of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him.”

In the evening, this caravan travelled onwards towards Madina Sharif. On arrival in Madina Sharif, it brought with it a scene from Qiyamat. Every house was filled with grief and sadness.

It is said that immediately after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho, blood actually rained down from the sky. A person called Nasra Azdayah admits that,

“When we awoke in the morning, every container in the house was filled with blood. The sky was so dark during the day that even the stars could be seen. Whatever stone was turned in Syria, below it was blood.”

In one narration it is stated that

This darkness in the sky lasted for nearly seven days and the walls seemed like it was covered by red colour similar to a flame. It seemed like there was a continuous storm among the stars and they were also smashing against each other.

Abu Sa'eed says that

Whatever stone was overturned in the world, below it was fresh blood. The sky rained blood. In the lands of Khurasan, Kufa and Syria, the houses and walls were dripping with blood.

The Ulama declare that this redness which is seen during the dawn was never present before the actual Shahaadat. This redness remained in the corner of the sky, then become apparent everywhere.

The frightful end of those who took part in the
Martyrdom of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu
Abu Shaykh narrates that whoever took part or assisted in the martyrdom of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho, each and everyone became victims of some tragedy.

Once, an old man proudly boasted that nothing had ever happened to him. When he was trying to set a light, suddenly fire engulfed him. He began to scream, “Fire, fire” and jumped into the Tigris. However, he could not manage to put off the fire until finally he went to his final destination which was the fire of hell.

Mansoor bin Ammar narrates that

The killers of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho became victims of such immense thirst that no matter how much they drank, they could not quench their thirst.

Sadmi narrates that

A person once invited him to Karbala and people were speaking among themselves that whoever was responsible for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho had died a disgraceful death. The person who had invited me declared that he had also been involved in this and that nothing had ever happened to him. The following night, while he was preparing a fire, suddenly the fire engulfed him and he was burnt beyond recognition”. The narrator admits that when he saw the body, it was burnt to ashes.

Imam Zuhri admits that,

“Some were killed, some became blind and the faces of some became black.”

Imam Waaqidi narrates that,

“There was once an old man who was present during this incident but was not involved. Suddenly he became blind. When he was asked the reason for this, he replied that he had seen the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him in his dream. The sleeve of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him was folded and in his blessed hand was a sword. In front of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him, ten of the killers of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho lay dead. He then turned to the old man and said angrily, “By been present, you had increased their numbers. He then placed a drop of the blood of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho on my eye and when I awoke, I found that I was blind.”

Sabat ibn al-Joza narrates that

“The person who had hung the blessed head of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho on his horse, after a few days, his face became blacker than coal. When people asked him the reason for this and also mentioned to him that his face used to always look bright and fresh, he replied that, ‘Every night, two people approach me and grabbing me by my shoulders, they throw me into a flaming fire with my head over the fire. The flames continue to lick away at my face.’ It is said that he had a very bad death.

An old man admits that

Once he saw the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him in a dream in front of which there was a tray of blood. People were then presented to the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him and each person is stained with this blood. When this old man approached the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him, he admitted that, “I was not present.” However, the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him replied, “But this is what you wished in your heart.” The Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him then pointed at him with his right index finger and in the morning, he found that he was blind.

Imam Haakim narrates that once the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him declared to Jibreel-e-Ameen,

“Almighty Allah has declared that in retaliation for the death of Nabi Yahya bin Zakariyah, I have killed seventy thousand and in revenge for Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho, I have killed seventy thousand and another seventy thousand.” [Al Mustadrak, Vol. 3, Page 485, Hadith no. 4408]

All praise is due to Almighty Allah in that He has taken his retribution from ibn Ziyad for the sake of Imam Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho. It is stated that when he was killed with his companions, all their heads were placed and people came to see. The narrator declares that,

“I saw a snake suddenly appear. After going through all the heads, it finally came to the unclean head of ibn Ziyad.  It went through one nostril opening and appeared through the other nostril. This continued for a few times.”

Mansoor narrates that,

“I saw a person in Syria once whose face resembled that of a pig. When I asked him the reason, he replied, that, ‘I used to curse Hadrat Ali and his pure family. One night, I saw the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him in my dream and Imam Hasan Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho complained about him. The Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him cursed him and spat on his face. Suddenly his face took the shape of a pig.”

wa al-'Ayadhu Billahi Ta'ala!!
